Wesnoth: Scheduled Wesnoth.org downtime for November 4th 2020

Hi there!

Over the past month we've been quietly preparing to move Wesnoth.org to a new server with better hardware to cope with our ever-growing demand for performance. As a first step we moved our Continuous Integration (CI) facilities, the Discord IRC bridge bot and the add-ons server. But in order to proceed further we need to move several other things in a single large batch, which is also why at this particular time the add-ons web listing remains unavailable.

On Wednesday, November 4th 2020, at 09:00 UTC, all Wesnoth.org facilities will be moved to a new server, which will require an extended maintenance downtime for the entire website and most services. In particular, this affects the website, forums board, wiki, and the primary multiplayer server.

• At the specified time, the entirety of Wesnoth.org will go dark, and all primary multiplayer server instances on server.wesnoth.org will be shut down.
• The alternate multiplayer server server2.wesnoth.org will remain online and fully operational during the migration window.
• The add-ons server instances for all currently supported versions will remain working as usual throughout the process since they have already been migrated.

We cannot give you an accurate estimate of the amount of time it will take for the migration to finish due to the nature of the process, as well as the involvement of DNS caches. However, we estimate the migration will take between 12 and 48 hours to complete. As soon as it does, people will be able to access Wesnoth.org as usual. We shall also post instructions on Discord and IRC for people who desire to bypass DNS caches before they update across the globe.
